Blog 2 Nathan Chang SPC 1017                 The first groups presentation was on "paying it forward" which isn't just a phrase, but a way of life.  I've always found inspiration in the idea of changing people's lives for the better and spreading kindness. During their presentation, they engaged the audience with enthusiasm, which allowed me to dig further into the idea. They started off by highlighting the fundamental principle of paying it forward, which is to return kindness by showing kindness to others. It's a straightforward idea with enormous potential to change not only people's lives, but also entire communities and even the entire world. In an attempt to make their presentation relatable, the group shared personal experiences of seeing or feeling the positive ripple impact of giving back. Additionally, a scene from the film "Paying it Forward" was shown. Small acts of kindness can have a big impact, and this was one of th...

The class presentations focused on various aspects of happiness, well-being, eating and health habits, and different forms of self-care. The experience of giving presentations not only enhanced communication skills but also involved collaboration within the group, interviews with external experts, and utilizing college resources. The presentations highlighted the importance of being informed and how it can significantly impact our perspective on living, emphasizing the need to discern reliable sources in the age of abundant online information. The overall message underscores the value of seeking truth in various aspects of life. Learning to listen and question what we hear is crucial for understanding diverse opinions. The idea that there is often no absolute right or wrong, and everything is influenced by personal values and beliefs, underscores the importance of maintaining an open mind. Keeping calm in the face of differing perspectives allows for finding solutions or better a...

Class presentations were about Happiness and Well-being, eating and health habits, several forms of self-care and how to pay it forward, and their impact on people and society. Giving presentations in front of a class gives us the skills to keep improving our performance in speech and communication, which was present within our group when we had to prepare the presentation, with external people to get the interviews about the topic, and at the time of reaching out to college resources to conclude our presentation and get the information we needed. Being informed could change our perspective of how to live in a significant manner; that’s the reason the group presentations were an excellent chance to get to know others’ thoughts about small daily things that could improve our lives and physical and mental health significantly. As we all know, there is a lot of information on the web, and we have to learn how to search for reliable sources since the web is a place where misinformation...

Nathan Puentes  11/07/23 Initially, I found all the performances to be of high quality. I was part of Group 2, where we discussed the topic of self-care. Group 3 explored the advantages of maintaining a healthy diet, while Group 1 delved into the concept of paying it forward. Each student's contribution was highly relevant to our overall well-being. Throughout the presentations, I realized that there are aspects of my life that I can change to lead a more prosperous life, with self-care being a top priority. I've recognized the importance of incorporating more exercise and healthier eating habits into my routine, as opposed to consuming a lot of unhealthy foods. It's clear to me now that consuming junk food, loaded with chemicals, leaves me feeling tired and sluggish. Many people underestimate how much junk food can negatively affect their bodies. For example, daily consumption of chips, especially Takis, can be harmful due to the toxins in the ingredients. The idea that b...

Noryan Nieto Diaz   Prof. Sinkoff   SPC 1017   11/05/23   Blog 2    To begin with, in my opinion  all the presentations were very good . I was in group 2, and we were talking about Self-care. Group 3 discussed the benefits of good eating and group 1 talked about paying it forward. Everything that each student talked about was very important , it all contributed to our well-being. During all the presentations I realized that I could change a few things in my life to live wealthier, taking care of myself is a priority for me. I would like to exercise more and eat healthier instead of eating so much junk food. Even when I eat healthy food, I feel more energy, and I am more active to do my daily routine. Junk food makes me feel tired, sleepy, and very full. That is being caused by the amount of chemicals being used in a product or making it. People do not seem to realize the effect it can have on their bodies by eating so much junk food , and they keep...

Summary  For the past week we have been going over chapters 3,9 and 10. These chapters go over very crucial points in our communications class. Chapter three reviews intercultural communications and discusses the definitions of race, ethnicity, culture, gender, religion, age, sexual orientation, and disabilities. It dives into how different cultures can be and the importance of that and it explains how different cultures speak. For example, high context cultures the speaker’s message is conveyed indirectly and can be interpreted only by referring to unwritten culture rules and subtle nonverbal behaviors.  The chapter also discusses developing competence and several strategies to overcome barriers. Potential barriers for some people may be anxiety, assumed similarities or differences, stereotyping, incompatible norms and values, and incompatible communication codes. Now to fight these and work successfully when communicating with someone from another culture you can ...
